If you've been playing for a while and are looking to expand your knowledge or work on a specific skill set, I'm ready to work with you to create an individualized program to progressively address your current limitations and move you toward your goals. My Story
On September 19, 1983 I began my drum journey. Since that day, drums have been many things to me. Drums were where I started to learn things for myself. They were a puzzle that kept me endlessly fascinated. When I formed a band at 15 with some friends, drums became the way I hung out. Many a social skill was learned during basement rehearsals. They eventually became a cornerstone of my identity, and drums were the vehicle that propelled me into the wider world of college and professional life. They lead me to my first job and all of the others that followed, from teaching, to performance, to dance accompaniment. And they're still so much fun that the first thing I want to do when I get home from work is get some time playing in my studio. If you need a drummer for your next concert or recording session, or you're interested in getting in on the fun, I'm here to help you get started on your way. The way I see it, the more drummers in the world, the better. Let's go!
Lessons
If you’re new to drumming, my mission is to get you started with healthy and progressive habits that will evolve and grow as you do. If you’re already an experienced drummer looking to enhance your skills, I offer tools and practices that have benefitted me over my 40 years of drumming and will lead you to your own insights and progress. I hope you’re as excited as I am!
Bands
I play drum set and percussion, performing regularly in the DMV. Working with multiple bands allows me to explore my wide range of musical interests. From solo percussion shows for kids, to duos, trios, quartets, and an 11-piece Afro-Funk big band, music takes me around the world on a tour of rhythm. Feeling comfortable in many musical circumstances comes down to having a solid understanding of the fundamentals. Once you've built those, you can go anywhere!
